Mumbai (also known as Bombay until 1995) is a large city located in India. It has high business ratings that often exceed 300, but may have a lower tourism rating of around 150 to 250.

Airport[]

The default airport here is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM).

Trivia[]

The city will start in 1960 with no airport. The national airport will be automatically constructed around 1964. The airport is named after the 17th-century Maratha emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji and its IATA airport code – "BOM" – is derived from Bombay, Mumbai's former name.

Strategy[]

Although the city has no airport initially, it will still have high ratings that attract many players. This may prompt some better players to try build an airport in this city. When that happens, it is advisable to act fast and link as many routes as possible out of this city before competition comes in, especially cargo routes. It's high business ratings and good location in India allows Mumbai to be connected to many large cities in East Asia (e.g. Beijing and Seoul), South East Asia (e.g. Kuala Lumpur and Singapore) and sometimes Western Europe (e.g. Madrid and Paris) with planes that have large enough range. Competition in this city is manageable and this also allows thriving passenger services to be run from this city too. If competition gets too intense, e.g involving 3 or more players, then it is advisable to close the route as the city may not necessarily be able sustain such competition.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport often achieves a high status of around level 7 or 8 due to it's popularity among players. However, it rarely attains maximum slot usage. Most of the time, a player would have already built and owned the airport, making it impossible to own the airport unless the said player withdraws. If the national government built the airport instead, buying this airport should be considered when first choice airports like in London and New York are taken up. Additional airports in this city are unnecessary and usually cannot attain a status beyond a level 2 or 3. Hence, it is not recommended for any players to build any additional airports in Mumbai.

For cargo flights to medium and large cities, aircraft with medium to large capacity with high satisfaction are recommended. Examples include the Boeing 767-300F, Airbus A310F and the Antonov An-70. Routes to smaller cities should use small capacity planes like the Boeing 737F and the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32F. For passenger operations, aircraft of any reasonable capacity and range with high satisfaction are suitable for most routes from and to Mumbai.
