Sapporo is a medium to large sized city located in Japan. It possess very high tourism ratings that often exceed 250, sometimes going as high as 400. Business ratings are lower and fall within the moderate range of around 120 to 250. Sapporo is one of the few cities to receive the "Rising Tour Destination" News Report and its ratings will increase soon after. The city will host the 1972 Winter Olympic Games and the number of travellers going in and out of the city will increase greatly during the month of the Games.

In real life, New Chitose Airport opened in 1991 to replace the adjacent Chitose Airport, which has now been under military use. The airport's IATA airport code was originally SPK. Strategy[]

Sapporo's high tourism ratings make this a great city to fly to for passenger routes. Low business ratings usually put people off from making this city their first hub. Competition in the city falls in the moderate level, but this is only for passenger routes as the cargo routes often face only minor forms of it. Sapporo can sustain heavy competition, but again, this is only for passenger operations. The city is in a rather neutral spot to make connections out of. Routes to great destinations west of the city (e.g. Beijing, Mumbai and Shenzhen) can be made, but there are very few destinations to pick from to the east of the city. However, this can be easily overcome with the use of long ranged planes to get to the North American cities like Los Angeles, San Diego and Phoenix. The light to moderate competition and good availability of cities to connect to makes this city a good place for beginners to start at and grow.

New Chitose Airport usually can attain a high status of a level 6 or 7 (sometimes a level 8 is possible). But, profits from New Chitose Airport is usually lower and unstable as a result of the lack in slot demand. As such, buying the airport from the national government should only be considered when better airports in bigger cities are not available to the player. Additional airports in the city in often unnecessary as the primary airport is sufficient to meet the demand for slots and players should avoid contemplating on building a second airport here.

Due to the low business ratings, passenger aircraft flying to and out of Sapporo should avoid having too many first and business class seats. High tourism ratings encourages the use of large capacity aircraft like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 when flying to large cities. Passenger flights to small and medium sized cities should use planes with a medium capacity like the Boeing 767, Airbus A300 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. When flying cargo routes to any cities, use only small to medium capacity planes such as the Boeing 737F and the Airbus A310F. Small capacity passenger planes and large capacity cargo planes should be avoided in order to minimise depreciation caused by multiple planes and extra unnecessary space respectively.

A player may also take advantage of 1972 Winter Olympics to rake in additional revenue by increasing the number of planes and/or raising prices on routes into and out of Sapporo temporarily during the month of the Games.
